Locally I've used Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T. Of the three I've had the best service (customer and technical) from Sprint. Verizon is good coverage but the customer service was a nightmare (12 months to cancel service with several bills after cancellation going to collections only to have to explain to them that I quit the service months earlier).
I currently have AT&T solely because I wanted to use the iPhone. Now that I've discovered the poor software design and hardware limitations and mistakes of the iPhone I'd have avoided it like the plague (you'd think Apple would put more effort into it's biggest market penetrator).
Unless you're going for the iPhone I'd recommend Sprint (which is my current business cell phone and thus also a current service I use). Verizon would be a very close second.
